On 13 March, an alumni reunion was held at the Ambassador's residence, and around 20 people attended, including former Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship students and participants in the MIRAI Program*.

At the beginning of the event, Ambassador Takewaka encouraged the participants to get to know each other and to help promote the activities of the Japanese community in Iceland, with the Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai opening in less than a month as well as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Iceland next year.

As a former MEXT scholarship student who studied at Kyoto Seika University, designer Mr. Sigmundur Páll Freysteinsson talked about his recent solo exhibition in Kyoto in his speech. After that, the attendees enjoyed talking about their experiences in Japan and their current activities.

* It is a short-term youth exchange scheme set up to invite graduate and undergraduate students to Japan with the aim of deepening their understanding of Japanese policies and promoting mutual understanding.
