On March 5, an alumni gathering was held at the Ambassador’s Residence, bringing together 20 participants, including former Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship students as well as alumni of the MIRAI Program (*).
At the opening, Ambassador Takewaka delivered remarks, expressing his appreciation to those who had studied in Japan. He also highlighted last year’s high-level exchanges between Japan and Iceland, noted the significance of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, and encouraged participants to continue serving as bridges that strengthen ties between the two countries.

This was followed by a speech from Ms. Borghildur Gunnarsdóttir, who is currently studying at Waseda University as a MEXT scholarship student, in which she shared her experiences in Japan and spoke about her future career aspirations.

After the speeches, attendees enjoyed friendly conversations, exchanging stories about their time in Japan and discussing their current activities.

(*) The “MIRAI Program”, promoted by the Government of Japan, invites young people who are expected to become future leaders in Europe to Japan by thematic group, offering opportunities for intellectual exchange with Japanese students of the same generation.
