Summary of Contributions
Mr. Óskarsson served as Ambassador of Iceland to Japan from September 2004 to July 2008. During his tenure, he played a key role in establishing and strengthening the foundation of the Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo and made significant contributions to the development of Japan–Iceland relations.
While in office, he actively promoted cultural and economic exchange between the two countries through initiatives such as EXPO 2005 Aichi and events commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Iceland, thereby widely introducing the appeal of Iceland to the Japanese public. He also contributed to the expansion of people-to-people exchange, particularly in the field of tourism.
After leaving office, Mr. Óskarsson continued to cooperate with the Government of Japan in the fields of disarmament and non-proliferation, contributing to the deepening of mutual trust between the two countries through collaboration on UN resolutions on nuclear disarmament and participation in international conferences.
