From Ambassador (Release of the movie “Touch”)

2024/5/29
With the director, Mr. Baltasar Kormákur
With the main actor, Mr. Egill Ólafsson
On May 21, I went to a special premiere screening of a new film.
The title of the film is “Snerting” in Icelandic and the English title is “Touch”.

The film, unusually for a film made in Iceland, features many Japanese actors and actresses, including Masahiro Motoki and Kōki, among others. The film tells the story of Kristófer, an elderly restaurant owner played by Egill Ólafsson, who travels from Iceland to London and then to Japan as Covid-19 swept the globe. As he reflects, the film flashes back to the “Nippon” Japanese restaurant in London in 1969.

The scenes in this Japanese restaurant, which form the core of the story, were actually filmed on a set built in a studio in Iceland. The film is based on the novel of the same name written by Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson, which was published in Iceland in 2020 and became a bestseller in the country.

The film will be released to the general public on May 29. The film is scheduled to be released in Japan by early next year. Plans are also underway to publish a Japanese translation of the original novel.

This is something to look forward to!
