From Ambassador (A story about Vigdís)
2024/6/4

The presidential election is over and Halla Tómasdóttir has been elected as Iceland's seventh president. She is the second female president after Vigdís Finnbogadóttir.
Based on the results of last-minute polls, the presidential election was expected to be a very close race, but as it turned out, Halla received more than 34% of the vote, with a large margin of about 10 points over the runner-up candidate, former Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir.
The arrival of the new female president coincided with some welcome news. The book about H.E. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, which I have previously written about in my essay series, has now been published in Japanese, translated by Mr. Shohei Akakura. I hope that Japanese readers will also take this book and reflect on Iceland's contemporary history.
