From Ambassador (Japan Festival)
2025/1/30

On January 25, I attended the Japan Festival held at the University of Iceland. It was a huge success, despite a heavy snowfall.
As soon as I entered the university, a young Icelandic person came up to me to ask where the manga workshop room was. I'm quite used to being asked questions, but I was amazed that he showed such a specific interest in manga straight away.
At the sumo demonstration, where the wrestlers from the British Sumo Federation called for volunteers to spar with them, one after another, hands went up in the packed venue, and the spectators kept going up to the Dohyo. Aikido demonstration was also popular, and there were long lines for calligraphy, Go, and Kendama too.
It was the 21st Japan Festival. Most of the visitors were Icelandic, and many of the booths and workshops on the day were run by Icelanders who love Japan.
Like the famous quote that expresses the principles of democracy: Japan Festival of the people in Iceland, by the people in Iceland, for the people in Iceland. What a wonderful event made in Iceland!
