The Embassy held the National Day Reception celebrating the 85th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan at Grand Hotel Reykjavik. The reception was attended by approximately 170 guests from various fields: the government, diplomatic missions, private sectors, educational, cultural and academic sectors.

The reception started with the singing of the national anthems of both Japan and Iceland by one of the best male choir group in Iceland, Gamlir Fóstbræður, which was followed by Ambassador Kitagawa’s opening remarks. Ambassador mentioned that 2018 was the year when bilateral relations between the two countries expanded significantly. He then reviewed major achievements in the fields of political, economic and business relations, as well as educational and cultural exchanges. He also expressed high hopes for the further expansion in the coming years.

In the reception hall, newest car models from Toyota, Suzuki, Mitsubishi and Nissan were displayed and products from Sensai, Shiseido, Canon, Sony and Nordic Wasabi were exhibited as well. Together with the demonstration of sushi-making by the Japanese Ambassador‘s chef, it was a great opportunity to introduce Japanese products and food to the guests.
