On June 23, the Embassy of Japan in Iceland hosted “Japanese tea ceremony demonstration” twice at the Ambassador’s residence in collaboration with Ms. Yoko Arai as a lecturer. For the first session, co-hosted by Iceland Red Cross, we received our guests mostly from Ukraine and Venezuela. For the second session, we received Icelanders, students and so forth.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Suzuki introduced its history and the spirituality of the tea ceremony, such as "a meeting once in a lifetime". Following the demonstration, guests were invited to actually make tea and enjoy Matcha.

Additionally explanation about Japanese confectionery, or Wagashi, provided from Ambassador’s Chef, it was a great opportunity for the Embassy to introduce Japanese culture.
