Conferment Ceremony of Imperial Decoration for Dr. Tryggvi Sigurðsson

On September 9, Ambassador Suzuki conferred upon Dr. Tryggvi Sigurðsson the decoration of The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, at a ceremony held at his official residence as part of the 2022 Spring Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals. Dr. Sigurðsson, a holder of Kyoshi 7-dan, has been actively conducting Kyudo seminars in Iceland and other European countries, and has greatly contributed to the spread of Kyudo in European countries.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Suzuki delivered a congratulatory address and subsequently conferred the certificate of award to Dr. Sigurðsson, who gave a speech in reply and spoke about the spirituality of Kyudo and more. Then Dr. Baldvin Steindorsson, friend and colleague, gave a speech. In addition, Mr. Gérald Zimmermann, President of the European Kyudo Federation and Ms. Shinako Tsuchiya, a member of the House of Representatives as well as President of the Japan-Iceland Parliamentary Friendship Association, sent congratulatory messages to Dr. Sigurðsson.
The Government of Japan confers decorations to foreign nationals who made significant contributions to promote friendly relations and mutual understanding with Japan, and 112 foreign nationals were conferred decorations in spring 2022.
