On February 23, Ambassador Suzuki hosted a reception, celebrating the 63rd birthday of His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan. Gamlir Fóstbræður, the leading male choir of the country, sang the national anthems of both countries at the beginning of the reception, which was attended by approximately 140 people, including First Lady, H.E. At the beginning of his remarks, Ambassador Suzuki noted that Japan and Iceland share not only universal values such as rule of law, respect for human rights, and democracy, but also a strong history of overcoming challenges in the face of various natural disasters and economic difficulties. He also stated that the two countries will continue to work hand in hand in the future. He also mentioned the recent situation in Ukraine and the need for Japan to work tirelessly to maintain peace.
Afterwards, H.E. Mrs. Reid, Mr. Ármannsson, Ms. Þórhildur Sunna Ævarsdóttir, Member of Parliament as well as Dr. Tryggvi Sigurðsson, President of the Icelandic Kyudo Association joined us for a “Kagami Wari” ceremony.
