Foreign Minister’s Commendation Conferment Ceremony for Mr. Bjarni Ásgeir Friðriksson

On November 23, Ambassador Suzuki hosted a ceremony and reception at the Ambassador's residence to present the Foreign Minister's Commendation to Mr. Bjarni Ásgeir Friðriksson, former Chairman of the Judo Federation of Iceland.
 
As the second Olympic medalist in Iceland's history, Los Angeles Olympic bronze medalist Friðriksson has established his position as a judo legend in the country, and after 17 years as an active athlete, he has long held positions such as Chairman and Head of Technical Committee of the Judo Federation of Iceland.
 
Through the activities of the Federation, he has played an extremely important role in the promotion of judo, and as an instructor, he has focused on the training of future generations and contributed to mutual understanding and friendship with Japan.
 
In addition, Ambassador Suzuki presented the Judo Federation of Iceland, commemorating its 50th anniversary this year, with the Ambassador’s Commendation for promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Iceland. Dr. Georgios Bountakis, CEO of the Federation received the certificate of commendation.
