On July 2, Ambassador Takewaka held a congratulatory reception at the ambassador's residence for Mr. Yoshihiko Iura, who was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Silver Rays during the Autumn 2024 Decorations Conferment Ceremony that took place in Japan last November.

Mr. Iura was employed at the Information Center of Japan prior to the establishment of the Embassy of Japan in Iceland in February 2001, where he focused on promoting Japan. Once the embassy was set up, he dedicated himself to consular duties, and for over 20 years until his retirement, he played a vital role in supporting the embassy's operations while also offering warm assistance to Japanese residents in Iceland. In addition, he has been teaching judo at Iceland's leading judo club for more than 25 years, significantly contributing to the growth of judo within the nation.

At the reception, Ambassador Takewaka gave a congratulatory address commending Mr. Iura's accomplishments, which was succeeded by a speech from Mr. Iura. Furthermore, Reverend. Miyako Þórðarson, who represented the Japanese community, made a toast.

We extend our sincere congratulations to Mr. Iura.
