Reykjavik Marathon
Reykjavik Marathon
I participated in Reykjavik Marathon on August 23, for 10K, General. It was a huge experience with great learning.

A strong passion of the participants was already nurtured when I went to collect the number bib at the Sports Centre. On the day of the marathon, I felt like being received with a plenty of welcome while making a lot of findings, in the gathering of nearly eighteen thousand participants. Every runner was very serious. Along the running route, numerous people gave a strong cheer of support, and many colorful banners were arranged. A large number of volunteers were cooperating for this event. Even after the goal, the participants were encouraging one after another. All of them reaffirmed that I was so right to have joined this marathon, while it was a tough exercise.

In the course of running, the University of Iceland was a familiar look right after the start, and then I had a fresh experience of viewing gracious houses followed by a beautiful coastal line, though the head wind added a tough condition. After the goal, the sign of “Fulfill” looked as if it embraced all the participants with a great sense of accomplishment.

It was such a wonderful event that I wish to participate next year and also recommend that other Japanese people join. Coincidently, I read an article that an 84 year-old Japanese person was awarded as the most senior half-marathon finisher some time ago. My record was 56min 53sec, which means I need to train more in Iceland.
