From October 14 to 18, 2025, Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado made an unofficial visit to Iceland, in order to attend the 12th Arctic Circle Assembly. On the occasion of this visit, Her Imperial Highness participated in many events in the context of bilateral relations between Japan and Iceland as well. The outline of those events and the main photos are as follows:
(1) Visit to Þingvellir National Park in the morning of October 15.
Þingvellir is a historical place where the first Alþingi, Parliament of Iceland was held in the year 930. It is the place where the independent Republic of Iceland was declared in 1944, and it was designated as UNESCO World Heritage in 2004. In the afternoon of the day, Her Imperial Highness visited Alþingi to have a meeting with Speaker of Parliament Þórunn Sveinbjarnardóttir. In the evening of the day, a reception was held at Ambassador’s residence where Japanese residents and individuals who have close ties to Japan gathered. Her Imperial Highness talked with 27 people respectively, which was a very meaningful occasion.
(2) Visit to the University of Iceland in the morning of October 16.
It included a meeting with Rector of University, Dr. Silja Bára R. Ómarsdóttir, viewing the exhibition on the fourth President Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, and observing the Japanese language department. 40 students of the Japanese language department received Her Imperial Highness. In the afternoon of the day, just before the opening of the Arctic Circle Assembly, Her Imperial Highness had a meeting with Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir.
(3) Visit to the exhibition facility World in Words located within the Edda Building in the afternoon of October 17.

We sincerely appreciate warm support and cooperation extended by those who are concerned on the part of Iceland in implementing the above-mentioned events. I thank each and every one of you very much.
