2026/4/22
On April 22, Ambassador Takewaka held a conferment ceremony for the Foreign Minister’s Commendation and a reception at the Ambassador’s Residence in honor of Mr. Úlfar Steindórsson, the founding Chairman of the Japanese-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce and President and CEO of Toyota á Íslandi.
During his tenure as Chairman from 2017 to 2021, the Working Holiday Programme was launched, and the double taxation treaty between Japan and Iceland came into effect, in both of which he played an important role.
At the time of the Chamber’s establishment, he also made a significant contribution to building its foundation by leveraging his extensive network to bring major companies into its membership.
Currently, as a board member of the Chamber and as Chairman of Toyota á Íslandi, one of Iceland’s leading companies, Mr. Steindórsson continues to devote himself to the promotion of economic and business relations between Japan and Iceland.
Dear Úlfar-san, we extend our sincere congratulations on this well-deserved honor and wish you continued success in your future endeavors.
